Page Setup & Pages

A new document is an infinite canvas with no edges. To lay a drawing out on paper-sized pages, for a handout or a printed problem set, open File > Page Setup… and change the mode.

Choosing a mode

The Mode list sets the kind of document:

Mode	What you get
Infinite Canvas	The default. No page boundaries; draw anywhere.
Paged Document	Fixed pages of a paper size such as Letter or A4, stacked vertically on the canvas.
Slide Deck	Fixed pages in a screen shape, Widescreen (16:9) or Standard (4:3), useful as a storyboard.

Click Apply to switch.

Page size, orientation and margins

To set up a Letter-size handout with narrow margins:

Choose File > Page Setup…
Set Mode to Paged Document.
Under Page Size, choose Letter (8.5 × 11 in), then pick Portrait or Landscape for Orientation.
Under Margins, set Preset to Narrow.
Click Apply.

The Page Size list offers Letter, A4, A3, Legal, Tabloid, B5, Executive and Custom. Custom shows Width and Height fields in inches (in) or millimeters (mm). In Slide Deck mode the list changes to Widescreen (16:9), Standard (4:3) and Custom, and the orientation choice is hidden.

The margin Preset list offers Normal (1 in on every edge), Narrow (0.5 in), Wide (1 in top and bottom, 1.5 in left and right), None and Custom. The Top, Right, Bottom and Left fields take values in inches.

The Display section has two checkboxes: Show page boundaries (on by default) and Show margin guides (off by default). A Preview shows the page with its printable area. Reset to Defaults returns the dialog to the infinite-canvas settings.

Working with pages

In Paged Document mode a Pages panel appears on the left edge of the canvas, with a thumbnail for each page.

To add a page, click + in the panel header. The new page goes after the last one, and the view moves to it.
To go to a page, click its thumbnail. The view zooms to fit that page.
To duplicate, rename or delete a page, right-click its thumbnail. Delete is unavailable when only one page is left.
To collapse or expand the panel, click its header.

Pages are stacked vertically with a small gap between them, so you can also scroll from one page to the next.

PageDown and PageUp, or Ctrl+Down and Ctrl+Up, move to the next or previous page, and they step through the pages of a Slide Deck the same way. Moving between pages is not recorded in the undo history, so Ctrl+Z after paging undoes your last edit.

Fit Page and Fit Width

View > Fit Page zooms so the whole current page fits the window. View > Fit Width fills the window’s width with the page, which is easier for reading a tall page. Both menu items are greyed out on an infinite canvas. From the command palette, Fit Page on an infinite canvas fits the drawing instead, and Fit Width does nothing. Printing pages to PDF

File > Export PDF… turns each page or slide into one PDF page, printed full-bleed as you laid it out here. The PDF dialog fills in the paper size and orientation from Page Setup, and a Custom size set here is offered in its Page Size list as Custom. Because the pages already carry their own margins, the PDF dialog greys out its margins, Auto-fit content to printable area and Center on page for a paged or slide document. Choose Selection Only in the PDF dialog to print just the selection on one sheet instead. PDF Export has the details.

An item that sits outside every page is left out of the PDF. The PDF dialog’s preview counts such items, and a message repeats the count after export.
