Introduction

Molkit is a chemistry drawing app that runs in your web browser. You use it to draw structures such as ethanol or benzene, lay out reaction mechanisms with curved arrows, and turn a sequence of drawings into an animation. There is nothing to install.

Students use Molkit for homework and lab reports. Instructors use it to prepare lecture figures, handouts and exam questions. Finished drawings export as SVG, PNG or PDF files that you can place in a document, a slide or a web page.

The editor is at molkit.com. This user guide is at docs.molkit.com. To search the guide, press / and type a tool or menu name.

How to use this guide

The Getting Started pages are meant to be read in order:

1. Accessing Molkit: opening the editor and how your work is stored.
2. Your First Molecule: drawing cyclohexanol from an empty canvas.
3. Interface Overview: the menus, toolbars and panels.
4. Navigating the Canvas: panning and zooming.

After that, use the sidebar to look up a specific tool, panel or dialog when you need it.
