Shape Properties Panel

The Shape Properties panel docks on the right when you select a shape, arrow, image, SVG, chart, or LaTeX annotation. It is context-sensitive twice over: the title changes with the selection type (Properties, Image, SVG, Chart, or LaTeX), and each section appears only when it applies. This page lists every section, when it shows, and what its controls do. For drawing the objects themselves, see Shapes and the arrow pages.

Dimensions

For shapes: W and H inputs (1 to 2000 px) plus an aspect-ratio lock. For single straight arrows the section shows a Length input instead. Equilibrium and double-harpoon arrows get Top and Bottom length inputs with a link button that keeps them equal, a Gap slider (1 to 20) for the space between the two shafts, and a Shift slider (plus or minus 100%) that appears only when the lengths differ. Retrosynthesis arrows show only Gap and Shift.

Stroke

Shapes and arrows. Color swatch, Width slider (0.5 to 5), and a Style select: Solid, Dashed, Dotted, Dash-Dot, Dash-Dot-Dot, Long Dash.

Fill

Closed shapes only (arrows, brackets, and arcs are stroke-only). Type select: None, Solid, Linear Gradient, Radial Gradient, Hatch, Crosshatch, Dots. Solid fills get a color swatch and an Opacity slider.

Gradient editor (linear or radial): a stop bar previews the gradient; drag stops to reposition them, or select one and type an exact position percentage and pick its color. Buttons add a stop, remove the selected stop, and reverse the stop order. Linear gradients add an Angle slider (0 to 360) with nine direction preset buttons (eight compass arrows plus center). Radial gradients add Center X and Center Y sliders (0 to 100%).

Pattern controls (Hatch, Crosshatch, Dots): foreground color, Thickness (1 to 8), Angle (0 to 180, hidden for Dots), Spacing (4 to 20), and Opacity.

Corner Radius

Rectangles only. One slider, 0 to 50.

Brackets

Three bracket-specific sections appear: Bracket Side buttons (Left, Both, Right), a Cap Length slider (0 to 20, where 0 means auto), and a Polymer section. Checking Polymer adds a Subscript text field (default “n”) and a Copolymer select: None, Random, Alternating, Block, Graft.

Arrow Heads

All arrows except retrosynthesis. Start and End picker buttons (labeled Top and Btm on double arrows) each open the same 12-style catalog:

Harpoon DownBarbed Harpoon UpBarbed Harpoon DownDiamond
Rotated SquareCircleSquareOpen

Harpoon styles add a per-end Sharp Points checkbox.

Head Size: a single Size slider (2 to 20), or a Start/End pair when both ends have heads. Non-retro arrows get a Sharpness slider (0.5x to 4x length-to-width ratio). Retrosynthesis arrows instead get Angle (15 to 60 degrees), plus a Curved Head checkbox that reveals a Curve slider (5 to 45%).

Gap

Arrows with at least one attached endpoint. Gap 1 and Gap 2 sliders (0 to 10, half-pixel steps) set the clearance between each anchored tip and its target, with a link button to move both together. Only the rows for attached endpoints appear.

Anchor

Arrows anchored to a bond or to an atom or annotation edge. Start and End sliders set the contact position from 0 to 100% along the bond or edge (50% is the midpoint). When an endpoint attaches to an atom-label or annotation box edge, a Start Angle or End Angle slider (plus or minus 90 degrees) also appears, rotating the head relative to the edge normal.

Head and Stem Colors

Head Colors shows for any arrow with a head. “Match to stem color” is on by default; uncheck it to set per-head colors (a single Head swatch, or Start/End swatches when both ends have heads). Double arrows additionally get a Stem Colors section: “Match to stroke color” on by default, with Top and Bottom stem swatches when unchecked.

Curvature, Arc, and Smooth & Align

Quadratic curved arrows get a Curvature section: Amount slider (plus or minus 100) and a Flip Curve button (shortcut F). Arc arrows get an Arc section with a Radius slider (10 to 300). Every other arrow type gets Smooth & Align: Beautify and Straighten buttons plus Curviness, Bow, and Squeeze sliders once a curve exists. The section hides while a cofactor arc is enabled. Details on Arrow beautification.

Text Zones

Straight reaction and retrosynthesis arrows. Above (on by default) and Below checkboxes each reveal a Gap slider (1 to 40) for the text offset, and a Center select chooses Arrow midpoint or Shaft midpoint (hidden for retro arrows). Zone behavior is on Reaction arrows.

Cofactor Arc

Straight, reaction, and retrosynthesis arrows. The cofactor arc is the small curved arrow drawn over a reaction arrow to show a coupled species being consumed and regenerated, NAD+ to NADH style. Enable it with the checkbox, pick Above or Below, and set Span (20 to 90%) for how much of the arrow length the arc covers.

Image

Images, SVGs, and charts (the title reflects which). W and H inputs (10 to 5000) with an aspect lock (on by default), Opacity, and a Border checkbox revealing color and width (0.5 to 10). Buttons: Edit Chart… (Plotly charts only), Replace… (hidden for charts), Original Size, Crop (raster images only), and Reset Crop once a crop exists. See Imports for cropping and replacement details.

LaTeX

LaTeX equations. W and H with aspect lock, Opacity, and Border controls matching the Image section. To change the equation source, double-click the equation on the canvas; see LaTeX.

Effects

All shapes except curved block arrows and U-turn arrows. Drop Shadow (color, Blur 0 to 40, Offset X and Y, Opacity) and Outer Glow (color, Blur 0 to 60, Spread 0 to 10, Opacity), each behind its own checkbox.
